I've started a new project

From Hannah Brandt...

Solomon Brand (1924?)

A friend and I are motivating each other to work on our art. We both agree it is easy to slip into craft projects or nothing without motivation. Now we're meeting once a week to do some art and to give each other a parenting break.

Since I've been spending so much time with old photographs lately I've been inspired to do a book about photos. Not of them exactly but of the idea of them. I think it is going to be a prose poem with photos that have been reinterpreted (sewn, painted, layered).

So this week it's writing for me.

Bookmaking Project

This is the cover of my latest project: Mouth. It is a hand sewn book made out of glassine illustrated with thread and photos. They way people hold them when they aren't using them or when they are talking has been catching my eye lately. Most of the illustrations will be done in thread from photos of people. I tried asking people if I could take pictures of their mouths and all that got me was a bunch of people making faces at the camera. I still am not sure if actual photos have a place in the book or if it is a one or the other sort of thing.... Posted by Picasa
